About Sawthur

Independent Jewish and Israeli journalism — honest, clear-eyed, and free for everyone.

Anonymous Collective
Anonymous · Independent · Free

Sawthur is written by a collective of free authors who believe the Jewish world deserves honest journalism — and choose to remain anonymous to protect that honesty.

We are journalists, historians, and community voices from Israel, Europe, and the Americas. Some of us write under pseudonyms. Some of us have careers that make public bylines risky. What we share is a commitment to covering Jewish and Israeli life without the pressures of politics, donors, or institutions.

The name "Sawthur" comes from the Hebrew root for a voice that persists even when it is not heard — a voice that continues. It is a name for journalism built on the belief that truth about the Jewish world matters, and that it should be free for everyone, everywhere.

We are not affiliated with any government, political party, or religious institution. Our editorial decisions are made independently. Our only obligation is to our readers and to the truth.

Our Vision

A world where Jewish voices speak without fear.

📰

Truth over traffic

We will never chase clicks or viral outrage. Every story we publish must add something real — context, depth, or a voice that was missing.

🌍

Global Jewish story

From Tel Aviv to Buenos Aires to Paris — we cover the full geography of Jewish life, not just the conflict or the politics.

🔓

Free, always

Journalism about Jewish life should not be behind a paywall. We are funded by readers who believe in this mission, not by subscriptions that exclude.

Unflinching on antisemitism

We name it, document it, and refuse to normalise it — whether it comes from the right, the left, or inside the academy.

🕊️

Peace-seeking, not naive

We support the right of Israel to exist and to defend itself, while believing honestly reported journalism serves peace better than propaganda.

📚

Memory as foundation

3,000 years of history. The Holocaust. The birth of Israel. The ongoing diaspora. We treat memory not as nostalgia but as the foundation of honest reporting.

Our Editorial Principles

Independence

No paywalls, no advertisers with editorial influence, no political patrons. Anonymous authorship means our writers answer to no one but the truth.

Depth

We cover what matters, not what trends. Our reporting goes beyond the headline to the history, the context, and the human story.

Plurality

The Jewish world is not monolithic. Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, Sephardic, Israeli, diaspora — every voice belongs here.
